In brief
September 2026 was a quiet month for tobacco and nicotine legislation, with five bills changing stage out of 612 tracked. California accounted for all four enactments, including AB 762, which phases in a ban on disposable, battery-embedded vapor devices beginning in 2027, and AB 2667, which prohibits marketing vape products that imitate non-vape items or include videogame features. Six laws take effect between September and late December: Alabama SB 9 extends clean indoor air restrictions to vaping on October 1, and Maryland SB 249 requires separate licensure for electronic smoking device sellers the same day.
