Terms of Service

Last updated: March 23, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using LawSignals ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these terms.

2. Description of Service

LawSignals is a legislative tracking platform that provides automated bill monitoring, AI-powered news intelligence, and real-time alerts for legal professionals. The Service covers legislation across all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, and the United States Congress.

LawSignals is a research tool only. It does not provide legal advice. AI-generated content (summaries, analysis, comparisons) should be independently verified before relying on it for any legal purpose.

3. Accounts and Organizations

  • You must create an account to use the Service
  • Each user belongs to an organization, which is the billing boundary
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account
  • You must provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Organization administrators are responsible for managing team members and billing

4. Subscription and Billing

  • The Service is available under Starter, Professional, Firm, and Enterprise plans
  • Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe
  • Plan limits (users, categories, bills, news sources) are enforced per organization
  • You may upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time
  • Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice

5. BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)

AI features require you to provide your own API key from a supported provider (OpenAI, Google Gemini, or Anthropic Claude). When using BYOK:

  • You are responsible for your API key and any costs incurred with your AI provider
  • Your AI queries are sent directly to your provider. We do not proxy or log them.
  • You must comply with your AI provider's terms of service
  • LawSignals is not responsible for AI provider outages or service changes

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to access data belonging to other users or organizations
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
  • Use automated tools to scrape or extract data beyond your account's usage

7. Data Ownership

  • You retain ownership of all data you create in LawSignals (categories, watchlists, reports, notes)
  • You may export your data at any time in standard formats (CSV, JSON, PDF)
  • Legislative data (bill text, status, sponsors) is sourced from public government databases and is not owned by either party
  • We do not claim ownership of your content or use it for training purposes

8. Intellectual Property

The LawSignals platform, including its software, design, and documentation, is owned by LawSignals and protected by intellectual property laws. Your subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Legislative data is sourced from official government sources and may contain errors or delays. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any legislative data.

AI-generated content is not a substitute for professional legal analysis and should not be relied upon for legal decisions.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LAWSIGNALS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Termination

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time
  • After cancellation, your data remains accessible for 30 days
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms
  • Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms with 30 days' notice via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
