What it would do: Requires fire departments in South Dakota to purchase firefighting personal protective equipment only if it has a permanently affixed label indicating whether it contains perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances. Effective July 1, 2026.

What it would do: The Department of Public Safety shall establish a biomonitoring pilot program to test firefighters in South Dakota for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, collect and disclose blood test results, and report findings to the Legislature by July 1, 2028. The act appropriates $200,000 for the program.
